A Totally Different Gaming Experience!
First off, welcome to SlackerGamingNetwork.com or as we sometimes call it, SGN. This site was created for several reasons and I'll list them out here.
The History: BornSlacker.com was our previous home. It was the clan site for -=Team Slacker=-, a well known and respected online gaming clan that was geared towards laid back adult gamers who played FPS.
BornSlacker.com was created in December of 2004 and although the site is no longer active the members have all come to their new home here. Team Slacker is very much alive and well on this new and updated site.
Like BornSlacker.com SGN maintains a no drama policy. We accomplish through several ways. The first is the fact that we do not have serious ranks. That way there's nobody telling anyone else what they can and can't do. Second, there are no dues. Which means no money problems. We do have game servers and though they are appreciated donations are not expected. It costs absolutely nothing to be a member of Team Slacker or SGN.
The Why: BornSlacker.com was created three years ago, which means it's content management system was three years old as well. Though it would have been possible to upgrade the core, and every single custom made module, it didn't make sense. The only thing of real value was the community itself. It would have been like changing out everything around a car because you really liked the fuzzy dice. Much easier to move the fuzzy dice into a shiny new car.
The name change was brought about to reflect that we're no longer JUST a site for Team Slacker. We welcome every laid back gamer regardless of clan affiliation. Anyone is welcome to be a part of our online community which includes gaming with us. However, since this is the home for Team Slacker those members will be given special privileges and access on the site.
The Guidelines: We don't really have any hard set rules here at SGN, but we do have a few guidelines that we ask of our members and we don't feel that they're too bad.
1. Bad Language: We don't give a fuck if you cuss on our forums or in voice chat. We only ask that you respect others. If someone is truly offended with what you are saying and asks you to leave, please do so.
2. Our Voice Chat: Our voice chat via Ventrilo is open to members of Team Slacker and those wishing to game with Team Slacker. If you are a member of Team Slacker you may provide the Ventrilo password to whomever you wish, however you are responsible for them. So if they start jumping into channels and generally become asshats in any way, we'll blame you. For the rest of you, please don't be a dipshit.
You're Rights: As a member of Team Slacker you'll have the right to create a team for any game out there under the umbrella of Team Slacker. You'll probably even be the person to head up the team. We'll do everything in our power to give you as many resources as you need. And when we say any game we mean "any game". We don't discriminate, just ask the WoW guys
Being a whiny bitch: This is a big one and possible the main guideline that we ask you to respect. There are offensive things on the forums, there are offensive things said in voice chat... if this bothers you, guess what? You don't have to read it or listen to it. That's right, you have free will here, we didn't take that away when you signed up. So if something offends your little virgin ears or pisses you off, feel free NOT to go and piss and moan to the webmaster... he won't care. You can however say whatever you'd like to the person who is pissing you off. If your bitchyness becomes public for too long or stops being entertaining, the webmaster can and will make you look like the tool that you're being.
We hope that this helps explain a little bit about our site and our guidelines. We would like to invite all laid back gamers from around the world to join us in creating our Slacker army. For those of you who want to lead the pack, please feel free to fill out an application to join Team Slacker and hopefully you'll be in comms with us saying...
"Game On!!!"
